Friday Draw Terms

Version 1

1. The draw and who runs it

The Friday Draw, also promoted as $500 Friday and Friday 500, is a weekly prize draw run by CoffeeGrab Limited (company number 8866914, NZBN 9429051554989), the promoter. Cafés that take your orders are not promoters of the draw and are not responsible for any draw or prize.

The draw is a sales promotion under section 4 of the Gambling Act 2003, run in New Zealand in the form of a lottery to promote ordering drinks through CoffeeGrab. Each weekly round is a separate promotion under these terms, with one prize.

These terms form part of the CoffeeGrab Customer Terms of Service (clause 10, Promotions). Where they differ about the draw, these terms apply. By joining the draw you agree to them.

All times are New Zealand time (Pacific/Auckland). The time an order is placed, collected, cancelled or refunded is the time our systems record.

2. Who can take part

You can take part if you are 18 or over and hold one CoffeeGrab account, registered in your own name, with a verified email address.

You cannot take part if you are a director, employee or contractor of CoffeeGrab, if you help run a draw, or if you are a member of the immediate family or household of such a person.

We may ask you at any time for evidence that you are eligible. If you do not give it within the time we reasonably set, your entries are void.

3. Joining and leaving

To take part, accept these terms in the app and opt in. Joining is free. You stay in every round until you opt out. You can opt out at any time in the app, and opt in again whenever you like without accepting these terms again.

You are in a round when you are opted in at its close at 3:00 pm on Friday. Your drinks from earlier in the round count once you are in it, including those collected before you joined. If you are not opted in at the close, none of that round's drinks count.

4. Which drinks count

Entries come only from buying drinks through CoffeeGrab. You pay nothing extra to enter: a drink costs the café's usual price and CoffeeGrab's usual service fee, and neither is raised for the draw.

A drink counts when it is any drink on the café's menu, of any kind (coffee, iced coffee, tea, chai, matcha, hot chocolate, smoothies, milkshakes, kids' drinks and the rest), that:

  • you order through the app while signed in to your own account;
  • is paid for in full, by card, digital wallet, Prepaid Balance, CoffeePoints or a mix of them;
  • is marked collected within the round; and
  • is not cancelled or refunded before the round closes.

The time the order is collected decides its round, not the time it was placed: an order placed at 2:00 pm on Friday and collected at 3:30 pm counts in the next round. Each drink in an order counts on its own. Food, Prepaid Balance top-ups and orders not placed through the app do not count.

A drink you order from a café you own, direct, manage, work at or are engaged by does not count. If a drawn entry came from such a drink, it is void and the prize is drawn again.

Your entries are yours alone and cannot be transferred, given away or sold.

5. How entries are earned

Every drink that counts in a round earns the same number of entries, set by how many of your drinks count in that round so far:

  • 1 to 5 drinks: every drink counts 1 entry;
  • 6 to 10 drinks: every drink counts 2 entries;
  • 11 or more drinks: every drink counts 3 entries.

When your count reaches the next step, every drink you collected that round, the earlier ones included, counts at the new rate. So 5 drinks earn 5 entries, 6 drinks earn 12, 10 drinks earn 20, 11 drinks earn 33 and 12 drinks earn 36.

Entries belong to the round they were earned in and do not carry over. If a drink is cancelled or refunded before the round closes, it no longer counts, your count falls, and every drink that round is counted again at the rate the lower count reaches.

The app shows your drinks and entries for the current round. If it ever differs from our records, our records decide. Your chance of winning depends on how many entries are in the round, and we make no promise about the odds.

6. The rounds

Each round runs from 3:00 pm on a Friday until just before 3:00 pm on the following Friday, when it closes; a drink collected at or after 3:00 pm belongs to the next round. The first round runs from Monday 12 October 2026 at 12:00 am to Friday 16 October 2026 at 3:00 pm. A round runs every week, public holidays included, until the draw ends.

7. The draw

Each round is drawn on Friday at 5:00 pm, in Auckland, by random electronic selection from all valid entries of the customers in that round at its close. Every valid entry has the same chance. We draw one entry and may draw reserve entries in order at the same time.

The winner of a round sits out the round that follows: their drinks in that round earn no entries and they are not in its draw. They are back in the draw from the round after, without doing anything.

If a draw cannot be made at 5:00 pm for reasons beyond our reasonable control, we make it as soon as we can afterwards from the same entries. Subject to these terms, the result is final.

8. Telling the winner and claiming the prize

We contact the holder of the drawn entry soon after the draw, at the verified email address on their account and, where we can, by phone or in the app. Keep your contact details up to date.

You have 48 hours from our first attempt to contact you to reply and give us what we need to verify you. To verify you we ask for photo identification issued by a government showing your full name and date of birth, confirmation that the account is yours, and the details of a bank account in your own name.

If you do not reply within 48 hours, cannot be verified, are not eligible, or the drawn entry is void under these terms, you do not win, and the prize passes to the next reserve entry or to a further random draw from that round's valid entries. Each new holder has 48 hours from our first attempt to contact them. If the prize is still not awarded after three redraws, it is added to the next round as an extra NZ$500 prize, drawn separately under these terms.

9. The prize

The prize each round is NZ$500. We pay it by bank transfer to a bank account in the winner's own name within 3 working days after verification. It is not paid in cash or as CoffeeGrab credit. A working day is any day other than a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday in Auckland.

A New Zealand bank account is paid in New Zealand dollars with nothing taken off. For an account outside New Zealand we send NZ$500 by international transfer and pay our own bank's fee; any intermediary or receiving bank fees and any currency conversion are the winner's to bear, and we have paid once the transfer is sent. We do not pay to an account in another person's name, or to an account or country we cannot lawfully or reasonably pay; in that case the winner has 20 working days from our request to give us another account, or the prize rolls into the next round.

The prize cannot be transferred or exchanged for anything else. No one can win more than one prize in a round. The winner is responsible for any tax on the prize.

10. Cancellations, refunds and chargebacks

Taking part gives you no right to cancel an order or get a refund; those rights come only from the Customer Terms of Service and the law. A drink a café remakes or replaces without a refund still counts.

If the drink behind a drawn entry is cancelled, refunded or charged back before the prize is paid, that entry is void and the prize is drawn again. If, after the prize is paid, the winner gets a refund or chargeback for any drink that earned their entries in that round, other than one caused by the café or by us, we may ask for the prize back in writing, and it must be repaid within 10 working days. The same applies to a prize paid on an entry that is void under clause 4.

11. Fair play

You must not use more than one CoffeeGrab account, order without meaning to collect, place and cancel orders to get entries, make an arrangement with a café or its staff to get entries, use automated means to order or get entries, dispute a payment for a drink you received, or otherwise act dishonestly or to gain an unfair advantage.

If we reasonably believe you have broken these terms, we may void any or all of your entries, exclude you from the current and future rounds, withhold the prize and recover a prize already paid. Repeatedly cancelling or refunding drinks that earned entries may exclude you from future rounds. We act reasonably and under clause 12 of the Customer Terms of Service: we tell you what we found and give you a fair chance to respond, unless we must act at once to stop fraud or to comply with the law.

12. Publicity

If you win, you agree that we may publish your first name and the initial of your surname, the café where the drink behind your winning entry was ordered, and the round you won, in the app, on our website and social media, at cafés and in advertising for the draw in any media, without payment or further notice. We never publish your full surname, address or contact details. If publishing would put your personal safety at genuine risk, tell us and we may agree to change it.

13. Winner photograph

If you win, you agree to make yourself available, at a time we reasonably agree and within 6 days after the draw, to be photographed and filmed by or for us at the café where the drink behind your winning entry was ordered. You let us use, edit and publish those photographs and recordings, with the details in clause 12, in the same media for 12 months from the draw, without a fee; material published in that time may stay published afterwards as a record of the draw.

Paying the prize does not depend on the photograph, and we may release you from it if you have a reasonable ground not to take part. You can withdraw your consent to future use of a photograph or recording by writing to us; we then stop new use and remove it from the channels we control within a reasonable time, but we cannot recall copies others have republished. Nothing in clauses 12 or 13 limits your rights under the Privacy Act 2020.

14. Other companies

The draw is not sponsored, endorsed or run by, or associated with, Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc., and you release them from all liability in connection with it. Apple Inc. and Google LLC are not sponsors of the draw and are not involved in it in any way.

15. Errors and questions

If a round is affected by a technical failure, an error, unauthorised interference or anything else beyond our reasonable control, we may correct our records, including by restoring or voiding drinks and entries from our order records. We never change the conditions of a round after it has started.

If you think a drink or entry is missing or wrong, tell us before that round's draw. We decide it from our order records and correct a wrongly missed drink or entry before the draw where we can, and otherwise in the next round.

16. Changes to these terms

These terms and the rules of the draw do not change within a version. If we change the terms, the way entries are earned, the prize or the cafés, or suspend or end the draw, we publish the change in the app and on our website at least 7 days before the first round it applies to. A changed version must be accepted in the app before you take part under it. A round that has started is drawn, and its prize awarded, under the terms it started with. If a café leaves CoffeeGrab during a round, drinks ordered from it before it left still count.

17. Privacy

We use your account and order history to count your drinks and entries, and your contact details to reach you if your entry is drawn. If your entry is drawn, we use your identification and bank details to verify you and pay the prize, and the details in clauses 12 and 13 for the purposes set out there. CoffeeGrab Limited collects and holds this information. We share it with our bank and payment providers to pay the prize, and with the public only as clauses 12 and 13 describe.

Giving us your identification and bank details is your choice, but we cannot award the prize without them. We destroy identification documents once verification is complete, keep each round's records for 6 months after its draw, and keep prize payment records for as long as the law requires.

You can ask to see or correct your personal information under the Privacy Act 2020 by writing to support@coffeegrab.com. The CoffeeGrab Privacy Policy applies to the information we use to run the draw. We send marketing about the draw only to customers who agreed to receive marketing from us, each with a way to unsubscribe; messages to a drawn customer about the prize are not marketing.

18. Our responsibility

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot be limited. Subject to that, and provided we have taken reasonable care, we are not responsible for not reaching a drawn customer because their contact details were wrong or out of date or they did not reply in time, for anything a bank does after we have sent the prize, for a drink or entry not recorded for reasons beyond our reasonable control, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Cafés have no responsibility to you for any draw or prize.

19. General

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand's courts and tribunals have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies. If we do not use a right under these terms straight away, we have not given it up. Unless they are clearly wrong, our records of orders, drinks and entries are final.
